Ann Brunson Cook , 96 of Avalon, MS died Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Indywood Glen Personal Care. Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Episcopal Church of the Nativity in Greenwood, MS. Visitation will be 2 p.m. until service time Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the church. Rev. Peter Gray will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in North Carrollton.

Mrs. Cook was born on August 24, 1917 in Carrollton, MS and was the daughter of Annie Mae Hemphill and Samuel James Brunson. She grew up in Avalon, MS. After being crowned Centennial Queen for Carrollton, she attended Belhaven College and then the University of Mississippi. It was in Oxford where she met and married law student Virgil Griffith Cook in 1939. After World War II they returned to Mississippi where Mr. Cook practiced law before farming family land in Avalon.

Mrs. Cook was a lifetime member of Nativity Episcopal Church where she belonged to the ECW and devoted many years to the Altar Guild. She was a founding member of Carrollton Cherokee Garden Club and was a member of the Four Seasons Garden Club, the International Sewing Club, and Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years. She is survived by a large family including her daughter Kitty Cook Ellis (Billy) of Lexington, MS and her son Virgil Griffith Cook, Jr. (Charyl) of Oveida, FL. Her grandchildren Kitty Cook Ramsey (Tom), Griff Cook (Erin), Carrie Hodges Long (Rhyine), Matthew Hodges (Melanie), and Corrie Cook; her step-grandchildren Heather Sellers (Rick), Alyssa Killebrew (Keath), Scott Ellis, Justine Allen (Jay), and Jennifer Rogan (Johnathan); and many great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bob Provine, Whit Mounger, Charles "Mo" Powers, Allen Wood, Claud "Bud" Keirn, and Cliff Sewell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Simpson Hemnphill and Noll Davis, Jr.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Indywood Glen in Greenwood for all their care and support.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Episcopal Church of the Nativity.
