Services for Annie Sue Upchurch will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 23, 2019, in the Itta Bena First Baptist Church with the Rev. David Bartlett officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM until service time. Interment will follow in Itta Bena Cemetery.

Annie Sue Upchurch went to her Lord and Savior on Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019. While her family grieves her passing, we do not mourn as those without hope, for we trust in the resurrection that was the foundation of Annie Sue's abiding faith.

Annie Sue Upchurch was born on January 31, 1937, in Itta Bena, MS, to Maudine and Linwood Hightower. She was one of five daughters and family would become a central theme of her life. Her children remember her as a devoted mother who stood by them through the best and worst times of life. Her grandchildren are deeply grateful for childhoods suffused with her love and care. She taught us all by her example about the importance of traditions, about how to take care of each other, and, not least of all, how wonderful a slice of homemade bread can be. We know that she will always be with us as we read from the Gospel of Luke on Christmas Eve, as we attend her great-grandchildren's recitals and competitions, and as we sing her favorite old hymns of the faith.

Annie Sue was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter, Jamie Claire Smith, a son-in-law, Dean Smith, a daughter-in-law, Kim Upchurch, sister, Sandra Byers, and nephew, Reed Pickering. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Glenn Upchurch, her son, Chip (Sarah) Upchurch, her daughter, Melanie Upchurch Smith, her son, Chuck (Betsy) Upchurch, her sisters, Betty (Richard) LaMantia, Kaye (Herbert) Felter, and Carol (Dan) Pickering, eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Her pallbearers are Hunter Upchurch, Forrest Upchurch, Adam Shaffer, Chase Scates, Jacob Killion, Austin Killion, Keith Conner, and Kirk McIntyre. Honorary pallbearers are Doug Williams and Michael Adams.

Annie Sue was a member of First Baptist Church of Itta Bena for 50 years and was a member of Hillview Baptist Church in her later years. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorials be made to the Hillview Baptist Church Building Fund at 23919 Hwy 430 S, Greenwood, MS 38930.

The family would like to thank the staff of Country Meadows for the love and care they provided during Annie Sue's last few months.

Annie Sue rose to meet her Lord on the day of His Resurrection. We give thanks for her life and we cherish her memory!
