Services for Basil Kennedy King Sr. will be held Wednesday, July 15, 2015 11:00 AM at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood, MS 38930

Mr. King, age 85 died on Sunday July 12, 2015 at Crystal Health and Rehab of Heart Failure.

Basil King was born on February 18, 1930 in Greenwood, MS to the late Lamar and Edna Smith King and resided in Sidon most of his life. He was a retired rural letter carrier, bookkeeper for Leco Gin and owner of King Backhoe Service. He also was a loyal member of the Sidon United Methodist Church, past treasurer of the Sidon Lions Club, and a past Boy Scout Master. Basil King was a Navy veteran, having served in Japan during the Korean War. In recent years, Mr. King was an active member of American Legion Post #29 in Greenwood, serving as commander of the honor guard firing team. Lastly, for the past 60 years, Basil King was President of the Sidon Cemetery Association, where he recently resigned his position in May, to the newly appointed President, Tommy Lindsey.
Basil King is survived by his wife, Ada Herring King of Sidon, MS, Daughter, Laura Narmour (Richard) Oakes of Greenwood, MS, Son, Basil Kennedy (Laura) King Jr. of San Jose, CA. Sister, Anne King (Billy) Fondren of Coila, MS, and two granddaughters: Anna Kathryn and Emilie Ruth Oakes of Greenwood, MS.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday July 15, 2015 09:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood. Rev. Ed Saunders will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be Holton King, Lance King, Matt Howard Sr., Mike Bussey, Tommy Smith, and Steve Smith. Burial will be in Sidon Cemetery.
