Services for Benjamin Franklin Jarman of Greenwood will be 11:00 a.m. Monday January 4th, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church in Greenwood, Mississippi. Mr. Jarman, 88, died Friday, January 1st, 2016 at Crystal Health and Rehab in Greenwood.
B. F. Jarman was born in Sidon, Mississippi, on January 4th, 1927, to the late Charles Raymond and Naomi Lee Jarman. He graduated from Greenwood High School and Mississippi State University where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Mr. Jarman proudly served his country and the Navy in both World War II and Korea.
Mr. Jarman was a lifelong banker joining Leflore Bank and Trust in 1949 and later becoming president in 1975. He retired from Deposit Guaranty in 1989, and he also served on the board of Peoples Bank and Trust in Carrollton.
Mr. Jarman was a board member of many philanthropic organizations including the Boy Scouts and Golden Age Nursing Home. He served as president of the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Leflore County MSU alumni association, and the United Way. He also served as chairman of the March of Dimes, and the American Red Cross.
B. F. was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for well over 50 years where he was a past deacon and elder of the church. He is preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and James Jarman, and two sisters, Naomi Knight and Ruth Colley.
Mr. Jarman is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hannah Lyon Jarman, two sons, Frank Jarman of Madison, MS, George Garland Jarman and his wife Buffee of Greenwood, and one granddaughter, Mary Hannah Jarman.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. till service time Monday at First Presbyterian Church of Greenwood. The Rev. Dr. Rusty Douglas and the Rev. Steve Fortenberry will officiate.
