Obituary

Benton C. Strain, 87 of Madison formerly of Minter City died Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at North Greenwood Baptist Church. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the church parlor. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Greenwood with Dr. Jim Phillips officiating.

Mr. Strain was born February 21, 1927 in Poplar Creek, MS to Hosea and Hazel Strain. He was a native of Montgomery County and graduated from Minter City High School. He continued his education at Mississippi State University where he obtained a degree in Business Administration, Banking and Finance. He served in the United States Army in World War II.
Mr. Strain worked for eleven years at Billups Petroleum Company as an assistant manager, he farmed for twenty-six years in Minter City and for eleven years he worked for the Department of Human Services. He was a former member of Sunnyside Lions Club and a member of the American Legion. He was a former member of North Greenwood Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Eldwin Doye Strain and Hosea C. Strain, Jr. and his sister Peggy Marie Ellington.

Mr. Strain is survived by his wife of sixty-six years Patricia "Pat" Ferguson Strain of Madison, daughter Danice S. Miller of Gluckstadt, MS, son Benton C. Strain, Jr. of Madison, five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Benton C. Strain III, Chandler Strain, T.C. Britt III, Jon Kane and Ralph Edwards. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rusty Gibson, Ronnie Gibson, Joseph Nassar, Jack Sutphen and Ronnie Moss.

Memorials may be made to North Greenwood Baptist Church.
