Obituary

Job 1:21

The Lord Giveth and the Lord Taketh Away. Blessed Be The Name of the Lord.

Blondean Vaughn Minyard died peacefully Friday, March 17, 2023 in her home surrounded by her loving family. Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood, MS, with visitation at 12 p.m. Private family interment will be in Itta Bena Cemetery. Rev. Glen Waller will officiate.

Blondean Vaughn Minyard was born January 1, 1928 to Mattie Dale & Brewer Vaughn in Calhoun County, MS.  She was a long time member of First Baptist Church and in most recent years a member of Christ Baptist. She retired from the MS State Board of Health after serving for 20 years. Blondean was the happiest when doing for others. With arthritis in her hands, she managed to knit shoulder wraps and numerous neck pillows for nursing home patients and Beacon Harbor residents.

She will be missed by her devoted family and friends. She adored the little ones, always making them happy. She was affectionately known as "Ninee" by them as well as many adults. She loved and enjoyed her family very very much. Mother loved helping others in her community and prayed for the homeless, so in lieu of food or other gifts we request that you donate to our local food pantry or soup kitchen. Ninee celebrated her 95th birthday January 1, 2023 with family and friends. Her last Christmas and birthday will always be special. God has blessed our family for many years with this special lady that we call mama and others call Ninee.

Mother was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Mort Jordan, James Minyard, and T.B. Therrell, the father of her 3 girls and a best friend; brothers, Bobby Vaughn and Thomas Vaughn; sisters, Nadean Fitzpatrick and Maxine Crowson; a special daughter, Mildred Utroska Barry; and son-in-law, Wayne Horne.

Survived by her daughters, Myra (Tommy) Crenshaw of Jackson, TN, Rita Horne of Greenwood, MS, Anna (Randy) Henderson of Greenwood, MS, and special daughter, Becky McGlawn of Swiftown, MS. Grandchildren, Jason (Julie) Crenshaw of Collierville, TN, Jennifer (Cory) Davis of Jackson, TN, Kelly (Chris) McQuary of Glen Allan, MS, Christy (Neal) Mangrum of Greenwood, MS, Jennifer Gilmer Davis of Belzoni, MS, Bobby (Mary) Henderson of Greenwood, MS, Randi Rae McGee (Mark) of Greenwood, MS, Dana (Scott) Smith of Greenwood, MS, and Daniel (Kalyn) Barry of  Greenwood, MS; 14 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. Special family friends, Adam Gnemi and Curtis Gilmer, and a special niece, Sue Lynn Bowlin.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Henderson, Randy Henderson, Jason Crenshaw, Evan Crenshaw, Brady Crenshaw, Cory Davis, and Carter Gammill.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Crenshaw, Chris McQuary, Rusty Vaughn, Ron Vaughan, Adam Gnemi, and Mark McGee.

The family would like to thank Dr. Harden and the GLH staff, Sunflower Home Health, Kristy Huff and staff, Hospice Kare-In-Home,

Dr. Henry Flautt, Nicki Lary NP and staff, and Alvonya Matos (Von Von).

Mother told us three girls we had taken such good care of her and was thankful for letting her make her own decisions regarding her health care. We told her that we learned from the best!

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the March of Dimes in honor of Madie Gnemi, or our local food pantry or soup kitchen.

Wilson & Knight Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
