Buford Haley Smith ,72 of Greenwood died September 30, 2013 at Greenwood Leflore Hospital. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Wilson & Knight Chapel. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 11a.m. Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home. Dr. Joe Pate will officiate.
Mr. Smith was born September 11, 1941 in Greenwood, MS to Robert E. Smith and Eloise Haley Smith He graduated from Greenwood High School and before graduating from Delta State University, he served 2 years in the army and was stationed in Germany. After graduating from college in worked for Delta Electric Power Association in Indianola. He worked for Production Credit Association, while living in Yazoo City for 9 years, he then returned to Greenwood to open his own business. He retired after suffering a stroke in 1995, Haley loved golf and his friends at the Leflore Country Club also he loved Mississippi State sports, especially baseball. In recent years, he most enjoyed meeting with his morning and afternoon friends for fellowship and conversation.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Greenwood and he was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary Jane Morton Smith, a daughter, Mary Buford Smith Jarman and her husband, George Jarman and a granddaughter, Mary Hannah Jarman. He is also survived by his brother Robert E. Bobby Smith and his wife Ann Smith and a sister, Suzanne Smith McIntyre.
Pallbearers will be Billy Moore, Johnny Jennings, Ralph Smith, Mack Alford, Mike Sturdivant, Jr. and Bill Kellum.
The family wishes to thank the ICU staff at the Greenwood Leflore Hospital and Dr. Henry Flautt for their care, love, and support.
