Services for Charles Edward Mitchell will be held Thursday, April 13, 2017 2:00 PM at Graveside in Oakland Cemetery in Oakland, MS.

Mr. Mitchell, age 90, died on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Greenwood Leflore Hospital.

He was born on December 22, 1926 to the late Wilburn and Rosa Brewer Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell proudly served in the US Army during WW II in the 82nd Airborne Division, where he paratrooped into Germany and England. After serving in the Armed Forces, Charles was a farmer for many years and then went on to be a supervisor at Baldwin Piano and National Picture Frame. He was a member of Paynes Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Jean Holland Mitchell of 17 years and Nellie Hood Mitchell, step son, Danny Tucker, sister, Mildred M. Tounzen, and his parents.

He is survived by his four daughters, Barbara Jean (Dave) Merrey of Piedmont, OK, Kirby Joy (Ron) Burroughs of Bella Vista, AR, Mary Ann (Bobby) Smith of Greenwood, MS, and Nancy Jo (David) Hicks Jr of Oxford, MS; son, Chuck Mitchell of Greenwood, MS;  sister, Virginia White of Dresden, TN; three  brothers, Woods Mitchell of Greenwood, MS, Clifton Mitchell of Orange, TX, and Abner Mitchell of Chattanooga, TN; 11 grandchildren, a number of great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2017 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood, MS. Dr. Jim Phillips will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be Mitch Williams, John Merrey, Craig Jeffords, Jonathan Waggoner, Scott Smith, Kenny Bruce, Hunter Smith and Herman Lee Mitchell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dave Merrey, Ron Burroughs, Bobby Smith, David Hicks Jr, Dr. Michael Boler, Dr. Kenneth Hines, and Dr. William B. Jones. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
