Dr. Chloe Hicks Nichols of Harrogate, Tennessee, departed this life on Tuesday, July 17, 2018.

She was born in Pensacola, Florida, on December 12, 1940, the daughter of the late Grady Lee and Chloe George Hicks. She was united in marriage on August 22, 1959, to Emmet Arnold Nichols, III of Greenwood, Mississippi, while both were students at Mississippi State University.

Dr. Nichols was a life-long scholar and educator. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Mississippi State University in 1962, her Master of Arts Degree from Georgia State University in 1987, and her Doctor of English Literature degree from the University of Mississippi in 1994. Over the years, she was a Graduate Assistant at all three universities, Adjunct Professor at Southern Tech University in Marietta, Georgia, Associate Professor at Utah Valley State University in Orem, Utah, and Adjunct Professor at Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee. She also taught high school English in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and Astoria, Oregon.

She is survived by her husband, Emmet A. Nichols, III; two sons, Stewart Nichols and his wife Kelli, of Herriman, Utah, and Cameron Nichols and his wife Lucy, plus grandson, Walter and granddaughter, Evelyn of Franklin, Tennessee, and granddaughter, Samantha Kimball of Albuquerque, New Mexico. In addition, she is survived by her brother, Edward Hayden Hicks of Jackson, Mississippi.

Dr. Nichols and her husband were members of the Harrogate United Methodist Church of Harrogate, Tennessee.

Burial arrangements were accomplished by Wilson and Knight Funeral Home of Greenwood, Mississippi, with graveside services by Dr. Billy Ray Stonestreet of St. John's United Methodist Church in Greenwood, with interment in the Nichols family plot in Odd Fellows Cemetery of that city on Wednesday, July 25 ^th .
