Cynthia Rose Baria Makamson, 70, peacefully passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2020, at the home of her daughter in Greenwood after an extended illness.

Cindy was born on February 25, 1950, to Falcoln Littlepage (F.L.) and Mary Benfonte Baria. She was raised in Itta Bena, MS and graduated from Leflore County High School in 1968. After residing in Morgan City, she lived in Greenwood, and then moved to Jackson after receiving a kidney transplant.  She later returned to Greenwood where she made her home until her death.

Cindy was a homemaker, a devoted mother and grandmother, a loyal friend, and most importantly, a Christian, who loved the Lord and the study of His word. She spent most of her days loving and cherishing the times she spent with her children and grandchildren, who were of upmost importance to her.

Early on, Cindy was a part of a sewing club. Her girls wore some of the most beautiful smocked dresses any little girl could wear. Sewing and cross-stitching gave Cindy comfort during her days at St. Jude Children's Hospital while her daughter was a patient there. Once her three girls entered school at Pillow Academy, she became an active room mother and served as president of the Pillow Academy Parents Association (PAPA). During her tenure, she spearheaded the publication of the Pillow Academy Cookbook.  Cindy later had her son, and she often quipped that she had the notoriety of being a parent who had at least one child at Pillow Academy for twenty-eight years consecutively.

One of the joys in Cindy's life was her long-time friendships with a circle of high school and acquired friends that spanned over decades. Some were referred to as the "gold" friends who never missed a birthday celebration, took occasional trips together, and shared times of joy and sadness, along with the hardship and the surprises that life brings. She also had friends who never let distance separate them and were just a phone call away.

Cindy's involvement with the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency was a result of her kidney transplant. She was a twenty-seven year survivor of her transplant and served as a board member of MORA for several years.

She was a member of the Explorers' Bible Study group in Greenwood, MS and served on occasion as a group leader. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Greenwood, where she taught a ladies' Bible study group and served as a Sunday School teacher.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her step father, Judge Cleveland "Dooney" Davis.

She leaves to cherish her memory and continue her legacy, three daughters, Kelly Makamson Holman (Les) of Carrollton; Amiee Makamson Lovell (George) of Brandon; Mary Loyce Makamson Gammill (Anthony) of Greenwood; and a son, Walter Davis Makamson (Anna), also of Greenwood. Her grandchildren include Buddy and Hannah Holman; Jessica Lemley and Max Lovell; Gage and Grayson Gammill; Mary Clayton, Miller, Mayes, and much anticipated, soon-to-be-born granddaughter, Mallie Rose Makamson of Walter and Anna. She also has two step grandchildren, Ian Lovell (Hollie) of Brandon and Alex Lovell of Flowood.  She leaves her brother, Lance Baria (DK) of Inverness and sister, Connie Baria Gustavsen (Todd) of Brandon.  She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who fondly called her "Aunt Cindy".

Interment will be held at Itta Bena Cemetery, Itta Bena, MS on Sunday, June 7, 2020, with visitation at the cemetery at 1:00 pm followed by a graveside service at 2:00 pm.
