Obituary

David Danehower, 82, of Greenwood, MS, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at his residence. Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026, 11:00 a.m. in Odd Fellows East Cemetery. Rev. Ken Smith will officiate the services.

Mr. Danehower was born on June 22, 1943, in Forrest City, AR, to the late James and Marie Danehower. He was a graduate of Arkansas State College in Jonesboro, AR, where he received a degree in Business and Agriculture. He worked at Coca Cola for a few years, but most of his professional career was in the grocery business in Arkansas and Mississippi. At the time of his death, he was employed at Greenwood Marketplace where he had worked the past several years. He loved his job and felt like the Marketplace employees were his family, especially Derrick Simpson.

He loved to fly airplanes and had been a private pilot for years. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He also loved photography and enjoyed watching and taking pictures of the birds in his yard, which he kept full of flowers.

He was a faithful member of North Greenwood Baptist Church where he served as an usher and Sunday School teacher.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mary Varvil, and brother, Ronnie Danehower.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Brenda Danehower; brother, Jerry Danehower (Sandra); brother-in-law, Jimmy Bourne (Claudia); sister-in-law, Suzanne Cockrum (Bob); several nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog, Tara.

He will always be remembered for a life of hard work, devotion to his family, and steady faith.

Memorials may be made to Salvation Army or Leflore County Humane Society.
