Obituary

David Bruce Kelly, Sr. of Itta Bena, MS was born at Greenwood Leflore Hospital on July 2, 1952. He graduated from Leflore County High School and attended MDCC where he was an accomplished athlete in basketball and tennis. He was later inducted into the MDCC Hall of Fame. He then earned a degree in physical education from Delta State University. He soon discovered farming was his true calling and farmed in Leflore County for 49 years. He was a man of many natural talents and trades and was able to accomplish anything he set his mind to. He was a wildlife enthusiast and conservationist and worked to help preserve God's creations for his children and grandchildren. His grandchildren brought out a softer side of him and brought unimaginable joy to his life. David was saved at a young age and was a member of First Baptist Church Itta Bena where he met his wife of 46 years, Sherry Gregg. David went to be with Jesus in the early morning hours on February 11th at his home, surrounded by his family, after a battle with brain cancer.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy Preston Kelly and Jean Dodd Kelly, and two babies born into the arms of Jesus.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry; daughter, Lacey Baker (Scott); son, Dave (Karlee); grandson, Braden Baker; granddaughters, Annie Gregg and Ellis Kelly; brothers and sisters, Butch Kelly (Evie), Larry Kelly (Diane), Kathy Weir (Robbie), Tommy Kelly (Pam), and Pennye Johnson (Steve); as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 13th, 2024 at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood, from 11 am to 1 pm with the funeral service immediately after. Interment will follow in Itta Bena Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his nephews, Trey Kelly, Chris Kelly, Larry Kelly Jr, Bradley Kelly, Rob Weir, Tom Kelly, Stevie Johnson, and close family friend David Bratton. Honorary pallbearers will be his friends at Itta Bena Hunting Club.
