David Mitchell Edwards, 79, and Sylvia Gretchen Strum Edwards, 77, returned to their heavenly home on October 31, 2015 and November 2, 2015. Their devotion to their family and firm belief in God supported them through their health struggles and ultimately peace.

David and Sylvia are survived by their children, Melanie Lishman and her husband Bobby of Slidell, Louisiana and Mitch Edwards and his wife Mary of Carrollton, Mississippi; her four grandchildren, Laura Lishman Novak, Leslie Lishman Zimmerman, Katie Brooke Lishman and Mallory Elizabeth Edwards; and their four great-grandchildren, Makenzie and Alyssa Novak, and Tyler and Brody Zimmerman.

David was born to the late Frank and Lucille Edwards in Nashville North Carolina on November 7, 1935. After graduation from Riverside Military Academy, he married the love of his life, Sylvia. Shortly after they were married, he joined the Air Force and moved to Little Rock Arkansas. Sparking his love of aviation, he moved to Greenwood, MS to work for Barnes Archer Aviation. His great desire for flying was further fueled when he was hired by the Lewis Grocer Company now known as SuperValu as a pilot and eventually becoming Chief Pilot. Not only did he enjoy flying with SuperValu but he treasured his countless friendship he made during his career. Several years after retirement from Supervalu and still having a strong desire to stay in the skies, he was employed by Viking Range as a Corporate Jet Pilot. While employed with Viking he enjoyed the first class aviation department that he was able to help develop. With two new jets and a top- notch aviation department he often commented he was "flying first class". David's favorite hobby was antique cars. He not only enjoyed collecting but working on his cars and entering car shows. David was always working on a project whether; mechanical, electrical, wood working or his "honey does". Within the community, David was a member of the Independent Methodist Church serving as a deacon, North Greenwood Baptist church and enjoyed being a Mason and a Member at Large with the Lions Club. David can be remembered as focused soft spoken, man with a deep love of the Lord, family, church and his many friends.

Sylvia was born to the late Walter and Maddie Strum in Castalia, North Carolina on January 27, 1937. Survived by one sister, Shirley Burton of Virginia and proceeded by five siblings, Alton, Neil, Herman, Lucy and Thackston Strum. After graduating from high school she married the love of her life, David. During her residence in Little Rock, she worked for an aviation company. After moving to Greenwood she was employed at Sears Roebuck and Spartan Electronics. Illness struck her during her young adult life and decided to stay at home for a full time job taking care of family and home. While staying busy caring for family and home she enjoyed sewing, cross -stitching, drawing, painting and home decorating projects. Within the community, Sylvia was a member of the Independent Methodist Church, North Greenwood Baptist Church, Town and Country Garden Club and the Greenwood's Women Club. Through out all of her countless surgeries and illness she never gave up and always determined to keep moving forward. Sylvia can be remembered as a determined, sweet lady with a deep love of the Lord, family, church and her many friends.

Being the true gentleman that he was, David passed away first so he would be waiting for his true love in heaven. Determined she would take care of him to the end, approximately thirty- six hours later, Sylvia joined him in heaven.

Funeral is scheduled for November 5th, 2015, at North Greenwood Baptist Church, in Greenwood, Mississippi. Visitation will be at the church parlor, at 10:00 am and services following at 11:00am. Dr. Jim Philips will officiate. Pallbearers will be Grady Perkins, Mike Sturdivant, Darryl Barrett, Jeff Crick, Bobby Barnett, Paul Alexander, and Neil Dickey.
