Donna Jeanette Ferguson Hamel

August 21, 1946 – June 28, 2018

Services will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood, MS.

Donna Jeanette Ferguson Hamel, 71, went home to be with our Lord on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at her residence.

Mrs. Hamel, Jeanette, or Net Net, as she was so affectionately known, was born in Shaw, MS, on August 21, 1946 to Arlies Ferguson and Donna Belle Tounzen Ferguson. She was raised in Shaw, Silver Bell, and finally Inverness, where she graduated from Inverness High School. Upon graduation, she went on to attend MDJC in Moorhead and was a member of the Deltette's Dance Team, and loved marching in the Christmas Parades during the Holidays. She later met and married Jimmy Hamel, a computer programmer at Lewis Grocer in Indianola. They made their home in Indianola for a while and had one child while there. Jimmy later moved his family to Acona to try his hand at farming. They eventually ended up in Greenwood, where Jeanette spent over 25 years working at Mary Bells and Bella Flora as a floral designer, which she dearly loved. Her main love was watching her granddaughters participate in soccer, cheerleading, and basketball.

She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Hamel of Greenwood; a daughter, Haley Hamel Funderburk of Greenwood; four grandchildren, Lexie, Mary-Hamel and Makenzie Funderburk, all of Greenwood, and Lindsay Funderburk of Starkville, MS; a brother, Harold Ferguson and a sister, Joan Stowers, both of Greenwood; and many more nieces and nephews who were so very special to her.

Pallbearers will be Hunter Box, Cayson Cox, Shaw Ferguson, Bill King, Danny Cox, Will Stowers, Bruce Pittman, and Lee Stowers.

Visitation will be from 5:00PM till 7:00 PM Friday, June 29, 2018 at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Acona Methodist Church Cemetery.
