Doty Jones, longtime Greenwood resident, died peacefully at home Tuesday, June 16, 2020 surrounded by her family. Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, June 18, 2020 in Odd Fellows Cemetery with the Rev. Billy Ray Stonestreet officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM on Thursday, at St. Johns United Methodist Church.

Doty was born to Stella Rivers Neal and Henry Meredith Neal in Detroit, Michigan. Her family soon relocated to Mississippi, and Doty grew up in Hollandale where she graduated from Hollandale High School. She then entered Mississippi University for Women (MSCW at the time) and graduated in 1949.  She moved to Greenwood shortly thereafter, where she lived for 65 years.

An accomplished musician, Doty served faithfully as the organist at St. John's United Methodist Church in Greenwood for 58 years. She was a charter member of St. John's when it was founded in 1954. In addition to her work at St. John's, Doty played for numerous weddings, funerals, Greenwood Little Theatre productions, and many other special performances in the community. In addition, she worked in the orthodontic practice of Drs. Shelly Phillips and Rob White for over 20 years.

Doty is survived by her daughters, Debbie Jones Holt of Jackson, and Terry Jones Vandevere (Robert) of Yazoo City; daughters-in-law, Katie Jones of Calhoun City, and Pat Jones of Greenwood; five grandchildren, Lori Jones Peden (Lee) of Bruce, Brittany Vandevere Ketchum (Tony) of Yazoo City, Natalie Vandevere Whitehead (Kyle) of Yazoo City, Lou Holt of New Orleans, and Amy Tackett of Greenwood; five great –grandchildren, Blake Peden (Ashley) of Gluckstadt, Broc Peden of Bruce, Jenabeth Peden of Bruce, MaryKate Ketchum of Yazoo City, and Lane Ketchum of Yazoo City; and one great-great grandchild, Brooks Peden of Gluckstadt.

Doty was preceded in death by her parents, Stella and Henry Neal, her sister, Helen Neal Gaddis, and her son, Billy Deen Jones, Jr. of Greenwood. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or St. John's United Methodist Church.

Pallbearers will be Lou Holt, Lee Peden, Blake Peden, Broc Peden, Kyle Whitehead, and Tony Ketchum.
