Ed Hunter Steele died at his home in Greenwood Friday, September 16. He was 86 years old.

Mr. Steele was born in Morgan City to Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Weaver Steele. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Matt Steele of Miami, FL.

He graduated from Baylor School in Chattanooga, TN and attended Ole Miss, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta. He served during the Korean War and then graduated from Mississippi State University.

Mr. Steele was a retired farmer and a member of the Church of the Nativity.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine Somerville Steele; his sister, Mary Brook Estes of Virginia; his children Keesler and David Cronin of Whistler, B.C.; Hunter and Sandy Steele of Indianola; James Garrard Steele of Omaha, NE; Hilary and Hal Kent of St. Simons Island, GA; Harris and Katie Lydon of New York, NY; Liz and Eric MaCaire of Lakeville, CT; and 12 grandchildren.

Services will be conducted by Reverend Peter Gray at the Church of the Nativity in Greenwood at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, September 21, 2016at the church columbarium. Visitation will be held from 3:00-4:00 in the church parlor before the services.

Memorials may be made to the Church of the Nativity or the Leflore County Humane Shelter.
