Elizabeth C. "Pann" Powers, 86, of Greenwood died Sunday, September 6, 2015 at her residence. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, September 10, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church in Greenwood. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Dr. Rusty Douglas will officiate. Wilson & Knight Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Powers is survived by her husband Robert "Rocky" Powers of Greenwood, MS, daughters Libby Powers Carroll and husband Carter of Hattiesburg and Debby Powers Renfro and husband Richard of Jackson, two grandchildren Katie Elizabeth Carroll of Hattiesburg and Robert "Rob" Powers Carroll and wife Rockie of Hattiesburg. Three great-grandchildren Blake Patrick Renfro and Olivia Kate Renfro both of Byram and Audria Rose Carroll of Hattiesburg. One niece, Linda Ann Carr and a nephew , Ronald Carr and wife Cheryl both of Monroe, LA.
Mrs. Powers served faithfully her Lord, her church where she was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, her community and her state. She demonstrated a caring heart and a compassionate sprit, especially for those whom Jesus referred to as "the least of these".

Pann believed in higher education, she received two masters' degrees from George Peabody College in Nashville. She taught at the University of Mississippi and while there she earned a master's in speech pathology. She was past president of the Mississippi Public Broadcasting (ETV) and served as a member of the Greenwood public School Board. Mrs. Powers was a member of Zeta Phi Beta at Vanderbuilt University.

For over 50 years, Pann has served on the Board of Directors of Beacon Harbor, Inc. directed the Cerebral Palsy Speech Center for 19 years; was executive director of the National Kidney Foundation of Mississippi; Director of Christian Education at First Presbyterian Church, Greenwood; charter Board member of Habitat for Humanity and the Community Food Pantry; has chaired the following councils and organizations: Advisory Council of the Salvation Army, Cottonlandia Foundation, United Way of Leflore County, the Advisory Committee of Life Help, matinee Musicale, Lebonte Women's Club, Altrusa of Greenwood, American Association of University Women, American Red Cross, the Emergency Food and Shelter Program, three different Chamber of Commerce Committees, been president of the Mississippi Federation of Women's Clubs; served on numerous church committees, and at least a dozen committees for the State of Mississippi, including the appointee of five Chief Justices of the Supreme Court of Mississippi to the Mississippi Ethics Commission.

Pann was the recipient of the Lion's Club Outstanding Citizen of Leflore County, the Chamber of Commerce's Ambassador of the Year, the Greenwood Commonwealth Community Service Award, the American Cancer Society's Advocacy Award, was recognized by the Delta Business Journal as one of the top 16 most recognized volunteers in the Mississippi delta. She worked tirelessly for better education, an improved judicial system, mended race relations, reduced substance abuse, and quality mental health.
