Emma Galey of Madison formerly of Greenwood died Thursday, November 28, 2013, at University Medical Center in Jackson, MS, at the age of 91. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 1, 2013, at Wilson & Knight Chapel. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 1, 2013, at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Mrs. Galey's highest calling was to be a wife and mother. She stayed at home to raise and care for her two children. She was also a seamstress and spent untold hours making clothes for her husband and children. She also performed alterations for the public from her home, as well as sewed and/or altered costumes for dance recitals. Her sewing, crocheting and quilt making was something she never gave up and even into her 80's continued to learn new techniques and methods. After moving to Sunnybrook Estates in Madison, she performed alterations for some of the residents as long as she could. However, she especially enjoyed making clothes, quilts, blankets and other things for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

While living in Greenwood she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and for many years served as a teacher and as a leader in missions. She had a heart for missions, and on one occasion used her sewing skills to promote the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering by sewing flags of all the countries where Southern Baptist missionaries were serving. After moving to Madison, she shared this love of missions in her new church, Old Rice Road Baptist Church and was instrumental in establishing an awareness and promotion for all missions.

Mrs. Galey was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved, encouraged, and took pride in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. They could all bring a sparkle to her eyes but, without a doubt, the great grandchildren were the apple of her eye.

Whether she was called Mrs. Galey, Emma, Mother, Sister, or Granny, she was a wonderful loving person and friend to those with whom she came in contact. Status or station in life was not important; she viewed all as God's creation and, as such, she treated them with love and respect.

Proverbs 31 provides a description of a worthy woman. The heart of her husband trusts in her and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good and not evil all the days of her life. She looks for wool and flax and works with her hands in delight. She rises while it is still night and gives food to her household. She extends her hands to the poor and stretches them to the needy. Strength and dignity are her clothing and she smiles at the future. She opens her mouth in wisdom and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. Her children rise up and bless her, her husband also and he praises her. Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her the product of her hands and let her works praise her in the gates.

Mother, you have met that description. As you transition from this earthly home to your heavenly home, we as your family and friends- the products of your hands- stand in the gates and praise you.

She is survived by her son Darrell (Sandra) Galey of Ocean Springs, MS and her daughter Marsha McKinney of Ridgeland, MS. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Melissa Galey (Andy) Remel of Winder, GA, Jeffrey Galey of Oxford, MS, Yancy (Tonia) Brewer of Pearl, MS, Bob (Susan) Brewer of Canton, MS and great grandchildren; Ava Remel, Gannon Brewer, Bella Brewer, and Abigail Brewer.
