Emmett Joseph Chassaniol Jr., of Winona, Ms., passed away at Greenwood Leflore Hospital on Saturday, July 26, 2025.

Emmett was born March 26, 1939, the son of the late Mamie Birdsong and Emmett Joseph Chassaniol, Sr.

Emmett leaves to cherish his memories, wife, Lydia Graves Chassaniol; daughters, Mary Rae Cawood, (Trinity), and Mamie Chassaniol Taylor, (Randy); sister, Emily Handwerker, (Henry "Buzz"); and grandchildren, Connor and Ayla Cawood, and Vaiden and Briggs Taylor, along with a host of cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Emmett was preceded in death by his sister, Rowan Chassaniol Quave, (Gerald).

Funeral services will be held at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood at 2:00 pm on Monday, July 28, 2025. Father Don Chancellor of the Church of the Nativity will be officiating. Visitation will be from 12 noon until 2 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.

Interment will follow at the Vaiden Cemetery following the service.

Memorial offerings may be made to Winona Christian School or Jackson Academy.

Emmett was a loyal friend, loving husband, father, and grandfather, who in his later years delighted in the activities of his grandchildren, especially watching Jackson Academy football games.

Even though he didn't like horses, no one was prouder than he of the ribbons daughter Mary Rae won at horse shows.

Daughter Mimi was a special joy of his life, and he was overjoyed when she was born. He loved to talk about her 17th birthday party when 200 of her closest friends dropped by to wish her well.

Emmett enjoyed his pond and spent many hours fishing there.

Emmett graduated from Greenwood High School in 1957, and the University of Mississippi in 1967.

Emmett was actively involved in the sale of cotton for over sixty years with Chassaniol and Company Cotton, both with his uncle Pershing Chassaniol for many years and then independently.

Emmett was a member of the Greenwood Cotton Exchange and a past board member. He was a member of the Ole Miss Alumni Association; a charter member of the WW2 Museum and he was a Paul Harris Fellow.

He was a loyal Ole Miss Rebel and enjoyed going to the games.

One of his greatest memories was being in Baton Rouge when Billy Cannon made his famous run in 1959. Even though Ole Miss lost the game, Emmett never tired of telling the story of being there.

Emmett leaves behind a host of friends and too many stories to tell in a week.

He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Everyone who knew Emmett has a favorite story about him.
