Evelyn Purvis King, a lifelong resident of Greenwood passed away Tuesday at the Golden Age Nursing Home at the age of 93. She is preceded in death by two husbands, Robert Albert Purvis and Beacher Mack King, her oldest son, Gary Albert Purvis; and three brothers Edward Elton "Jack" Flemons, Charles Martin Flemons and Kenneth Reed Flemons, all formerly of Oxford. She leaves behind one surviving son, Robert Kendall "Ken" Purvis, and his wife Sally, now residing in Pompano Beach, Florida; a sister, Mary Elizabeth McMurray of Flint, Michigan. Her Five grandchildren include Gary Albert Purvis, Jr. and John Robert Purvis, both of Mesquite, Texas; Michelle Renee Purvis of Boulder, CO; Joshua Kendall Purvis of Eugene Oregon, and Sarah Purvis Smith of Pasco, WA, and two great-grandchildren. Nieces and nephews include Bruce and William McMurray, Janet Rhodes, Shirley Michael, Charles Flemons, and Phyllis Dolan,

Evelyn Marie was born in Greenwood, August 5, 1920 to Mish Edward Flemons and Docie Elizabeth Burrow Flemons. An ordained minister, she traveled extensively as an Evangelist and Bible teacher, pastored several churches throughout Mississippi with her first husband, Robert, known affectionately as "Bobby." Missionary journeys included extensive visits to Australia, Greece and Hawaii. In later years she became an accomplished artist leaving behind a great number of works.

Services will be hosted by First Baptist Church in Greenwood at 505 West Washington Street this Sunday, February 2. Visitation will be at the church from 1--3 PM followed by a "Life Celebration" Service at 3 PM. Burial will be at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Greenwood. Officiating ministers include Pastor Joe Pate, Pastor Bernard Wiggins, Pastor David Reeves and son, Ken Purvis.
