Frieda Ann Iskra, 90, of Greenwood died Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at her residence. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2014 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Father Adam Szufel will officiate. Interment will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Mrs. Iskra was born December 3, 1923 to Joseph and Mary Gruntmeir in Kingfisher, OK. She was a graduate of Kingfisher High School and was a member of the girls' basketball team. She married Marine Master Sgt. Edward Iskra in Kingfisher, Oklahoma June 1945. She graduated from Mississippi Delta Community College where she obtained her nursing degree and was active in alumni activities at MDCC. Mrs. Iskra served as an LPN for twenty years at Greenwood Leflore Hospital, volunteered at Cottonlandia and for the Greenwood Food Pantry. She was a resident of Greenwood for fifty-two years and was an active member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church where she was also a member of the "Senior's on the Go."
Mrs. Iskra was preceded in death by her husband Edward Joseph Iskra, her brothers Frank Gruntmeir and Herman Gruntmeir and her sisters Josephine Wiedey, Philomena Schaefer, Margaret Ludwig and Beatrice Jeck.
Mrs. Iskra is survived by her children Sheila Iskra Jones and husband Richard of San Antonio, TX, Chris Iskra and wife Caroline of Springfield, VA, Janis Iskra Coates of Clinton, MS and Chuck Iskra of Cedar Park, TX. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jarvis Jones and wife Blaire of McKinney, TX, Christopher Iskra, Jr. of Springfield, VA, Edward Coates of Clinton, MS, Erin Coates of Memphis, TN, Isaac Iskra of Cedar Park, TX, Evan Coates of Clinton, MS and Paul Iskra of Cedar Park, TX.
