Geneva Bailey Pernell

Geneva Bailey Pernell, 76, of Philipp, Mississippi, passed away at her home on April 23, 2018. She was born to Andrew Thomas and Mabel Burkes Bailey in Drew, Mississippi, on December 20, 1941.  In January 1958, she married Prentiss Aaron Pernell, Sr. her husband of 60 years.

She attended Greenwood High School and graduated from Delta State University with an accounting degree in 1988. She worked at Hickok Incorporated for a few years before working for the United States Postal Service for over 20 years.  She also worked with her husband as bookkeeper for many years in their machine shop, Pernell Repairs, in Greenwood. She was an avid horticulturist, often creating her own hybrid flowers.  She loved to read, craft and play music.  She was the church pianist at Philipp Church of God of Prophecy where her husband serves as pastor.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.T. Bailey, a sister, Peggy Bailey (Claude), and two sons, Ryan Heath and Douglas Brian Pernell. Geneva is survived by her husband, Prentiss Aaron Pernell, Sr. and two sons, Prentiss Aaron Pernell, Jr. (Lori) and Jon Kevin Pernell (Cindy).  She is survived by her brother, Bob Bailey (Shirley) of Ocala, Florida.  Also surviving are 5 grandchildren: Jon Pernell (Casey), Alicia Dallas (David), Daniel Pernell (Lauren), Erin Stagner (Randy) and Prentiss Pernell, III (Morgan).  Great-grandchildren include: Brendan Pernell, Isaac and Jesse Dallas; Maggie, Abbie and Lydia Jacobs and Savannah, Parker and Aaron Pernell.

Services will be held at Adam's Arbor Church of God of Prophecy in Charleston, Mississippi, with Bobby Murphree officiating on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 2 p.m. Pallbearers are Jon Pernell, Daniel Pernell, David Dallas, Brendan Pernell, Prentiss Aaron Pernell, III and Randy Stagner. Visitation will be open to the public from 12 p.m. until the time of the service with interment at Magnolia Cemetery in Paynes, Mississippi.  Wilson & Knight Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
