George Harris Dulin, 91, of Madison (former longtime resident of Leflore County), passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2017 from a brief illness at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. George was born July 30, 1925 to Scott Morris and Eleanor (Sutton) Dulin in Greenwood, Mississippi.  He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1943.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in the summer of 1943 and proudly served his country in the Pacific Theater in World War II, seeing combat all over the South Pacific, most notably participating in the Invasion of Okinawa and the Battle of the Philippines. He returned to Greenwood after the war and entered Mississippi State College in Starkville in the fall of 1946 where he was an active member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He graduated with a degree in business from Mississippi State College in 1950 and worked for several years in business at Barnwell & Flowers, Cotton Factors in Greenwood and then as personnel director at Ludlow Manufacturing in Indianola.

George began law school at the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1960 and graduated with a Juris Doctor degree in 1962. It was during this time that he met and married his lovely bride, the former Martha Magruder from Itta Bena, in March of 1963.  He served as a clerk to Federal Judge Sidney Mize in Gulfport and also as a U.S. Attorney in Oxford before returning to the Delta in 1965 to begin his private law practice with Bell & McBee in Greenwood.  He and Martha settled in Itta Bena where they would remain and raise their family.

George continued practicing law in Greenwood until his retirement in 2008. He was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Itta Bena, as well as the Kiwanis Club in Greenwood.  As a proud Veteran of the U.S. Navy, he was honored to be a part of the next to last Mississippi Gulf Coast Honor Flight to visit the World War II, Korean, Vietnam, Iwo Jima, and the Lincoln memorials as well as Arlington National Cemetery.  His group made the infamous trip when the government was shut down and the memorials they were going to visit were blockaded trying to deny them access, captivating the nation.  George likened the experience to World War II itself saying, "if we can win World War II, we sure aren't going to let a few metal barricades keep us away from OUR memorial!".  That trip was very meaningful to him and further cemented his boundless patriotism and his pride in service to his country.

In 2008, he and Martha moved from Itta Bena to Madison to be closer to their 2 daughters and their grandchildren. He was a strong Christian, a fierce friend and was an avid Mississippi State sports fan, but above all else, he loved and was devoted to his family and they to him.

George is survived by his wife of 54 years, Martha (Magruder) Dulin; daughters, Adele (Steve) Johnson and Martha "Marti" Dulin; grandchildren, Courtney and Garrett Johnson and numerous nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents, and five siblings.

The family will greet friends from noon until 2:00pm at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood, MS, with graveside services and burial following at the Itta Bena Cemetery on Saturday, June 10, 2017. There will also be a memorial service at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church in Madison on Sunday, June 11, 2017, with visitation starting at 2:00 pm and the service beginning at 3:00 pm.  Memorials may be made to St. Matthew's United Methodist Church in Madison, American Legion Post 29 in Greenwood, or the Leflore County Humane Society.
