Obituary

Services for George Ray Hankins will be held Sunday, June 12, 2022 2:00 PM graveside in Stonefield Cemetery in Cascilla, MS.

Mr. Hankins, age 91, died Friday, June 10, 2022 at the State Veterans Home in Kosciusko, MS.

He was born on May 16, 1931 in Cascilla, MS, to the late Claude Rhew Hankins and Ollie Lilly Hankins. George resided in Greenwood most all of his life. He nobly served his country in the US Army during the Korean conflict. He later retired from the City of Greenwood Engineers after 37 years of proud service. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Greenwood. George was quite the collector of model planes, tractors and hats of all kinds. He love gardening and gardens will never be the same in Leflore County as George had a green thumb like no other. He was also an avid quail and pheasant hunter throughout his life. The birds can all rest a little easier now. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Angela Hankins Holliman, and a grandson, Kevin Hankins.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Young Hankins of Greenwood, MS, (They were celebrating 63 years of marriage); son, Danny Hankins of Natchez, MS; sister, Jo Ann, Hutchinson of Bartlett, TN; three grandchildren, Mitch Holliman (Jen), Holli Wadsworth (Hayden), and Nikki Hankins; and five great grandchildren, Blake Wadsworth, Brock Wadsworth, Landon Holliman, Milly Holliman, and Max Holliman.

Rev. Lanny Haley will officiate the services. Military rites will be performed by American Legion Post # 29.
