George Newman, 84, died April 15, 2014 at his home in Greenwood. Graveside services are 2 P.M. Friday April 18 at Bethel Cemetery in Enid, MS. Friends and family are invited. Rev. Charles Jones will officiate.Visitation is from 5-7 P.M. Thursday at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home.

A native of Tallahatchie County he attended school there. He was a construction Superintendent with O. J. Stanton Construction. He retired later after working for Southern Rock of Jackson for many years. He was an avid gardener and a Methodist

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sara Tillman Newman of Greenwood, MS, three sons, George "Gene" Newman, Jr. (Patsy) of Elliott City, MD, Eddie "Ed" D. Newman (Susan) of Huntsville, AL, Stephen "Steve" Newman (Tina) of Yazoo City, MS, two sisters, Eloise Sanders, of Aurora, Co, Kathleen Dannington of Memphis, TN, a Brother Fred Newman of Southaven, MS, 5 grandchildren, Melissa, Timothy, Spencer, Daniel and Michael.

Pallbearers are his grandsons and Michael Tillman and Brandon Sanders. Honorary pallbearers are George Ricks, Lawrence Burke, Walter Fisher and William Earl Tillman.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Alzheimer's Assn.
