Obituary

George Dexter Walcott, age 82, of Greenwood, Mississippi, peacefully passed away at home on December 14, 2025.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 10:00 am at St. John's Methodist Church in Greenwood, Mississippi, with visitation starting at 8:30 am at the church. Interment will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery in Inverness, Mississippi at 11:30 am. Reverend Ben Butler will officiate.

Dexter was born to Kenneth and Elizabeth Armstrong Walcott in Hollandale. He graduated from Hollandale High School and later from the University of Mississippi. He was a faithful and active member of St. John's Methodist Church for over 50 years, where he served in numerous leadership roles over the years. His quiet strength, integrity, and willingness to serve others left a lasting impression on his church family and community. Dexter was involved locally in ministries dedicated to feeding those in need as well as supporting and encouraging those who care for ailing loved ones. He spent his life working in the farming community both corporately with Staplcotn for nearly 20 years and served in leadership roles with the National Cotton Council, as well as farming in both Washington and Sunflower Counties throughout his life.

Dexter was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Duncan, his parents, and his brother, Kenneth Myles Walcott of Hollandale, Mississippi. He is survived by three children, George Dexter Walcott, Jr. (Jamie) of Montgomery, Alabama, Walter Myles Walcott of Birmingham, Alabama, and Riddell Walcott Scott (Ben) of Wimberley, Texas; six grandchildren, Hayden Walcott of Nashville, Tennessee, Shelby Walcott of Houston, Texas, Katherine Walcott of St. Louis, Missouri, Maggie Scott Hwang (Joon) of Washington, DC, Grace Scott of Wimberley, Texas, and Violet Scott of Appleton, Wisconsin; and his brother-in-law, Christopher Jones of Birmingham, Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who wish to, make a donation to their favorite charity in Dexter's memory.
