Obituary

ANNIE LEWIS MYRICK SMITH

Mrs. Gordon L. Smith, 95, retired teacher, died on November 5, 2013

at the Greenwood Leflore hospital.

She was born September 11, 1918, in Greenwood. Mrs. Smith was a graduate of

Greenwood High School (1936) and Mississippi State College for Women (1940).

She began her teaching career in Sidon, MS and taught 22 years at Greenwood Junior

High School. Her life was spent in dedication to her husband, family and friends.

Mrs. Smith was a life-long devoted member of the Church of the Nativity, a

member of the Chakchiuma Chapter of D.A.R., a member of the Four Seasons Garden

Club, a member of the One or None Breast Cancer Survivor Group, and a former member

of the Greenwood Junior Auxiliary. After retiring from teaching, she was a substitute

teacher and a volunteer at the Greenwood Leflore Hospital and Cottonlandia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. K. Myrick of

Greenwood, and her husband of 66 years, Gordon L. Smith. She is survived by her

daughter, Lillian Smith Myer and husband John of Friendswood, TX; her son, Gordon

Myrick Smith and wife Jana of Madison, MS; four grandchildren, John Wilson Myer and

wife Christina of Friendswood, TX, Claire Smith Belknap and husband Charles of

Hattiesburg, MS, Catherine Myer Mader and husband Will of West Columbia, TX and

Natalie Smith Borland and husband Patton of Birmingham, AL; three great

grandchildren, John William Mader and James Ryan Mader of West Columbia, TX and

Katherine Myrick Belknap of Hattiesburg, MS; a sister, Catherine Martin of Ridgeland

MS; a brother, Edwin K. Myrick, Jr. of Memphis, TN; and nine nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the employees of Indywood Glen for their

dedicated service and care during her stay with them.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the

Episcopal Church of the Nativity in Greenwood. Visitation will be prior to the funeral

beginning at 1:00 P.M. Burial will be at the Sidon Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Harry

Roland, Barry Smith, Wilson Myer, Will Mader, Charles Belknap, and Patton Borland.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Episcopal Church of the

Nativity and the Sidon Cemetery Association.
