Hal Calhoun Pleasants, Sr., 91, of Minter City passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2019 in Greenwood, MS. Visitation will be held from 10:00am till 11:00am service time at the Minter City United Methodist Church on Wednesday, June 5, 2019.

Mr. Pleasants was born on February 14, 1928 in Grenada, MS. He attended high school at Columbia Military Academy in Columbia, TN, and college at Northwest Junior College and Mississippi State University.  After completing duty in the United States Army 5 ^th Infantry Division as an M.P., he returned to Minter City to take over the family farm, Loch Umbra Plantation.

Mr. Pleasants was known as a kind man and a true southern gentleman who loved God, his country, and his family and friends. He was a member of Minter City United Methodist Church, where he taught the Men's Bible Class and was the church lay leader. He served his community as a member of the Board of Directors of the Delta Council, Leflore County Red Cross, Director of the Greenwood Country Club, Scout Master of the Boy Scouts of America, and was a member of Barber Shop Quartets of America.

Mr. Pleasants had a passion for farming and the outdoors. He served on the Board of Directors of the Minter City Gin and Leflore County Farm Bureau. He also served over 30 years on the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee, was a member of the Greenwood Farmers Club, and was the 1984 Junior Auxiliary Cotton Ball King. He enjoyed playing golf and tennis in his younger years. In the spring time you could find him chasing turkeys through the hills and hollows of Cascilla, hoping the season would never end.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Estes Calhoun Pleasants and Enos Rogers Pleasants, and his brother, Enos Rogers Pleasants, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Belva J. Pleasants, of 70 years; sons, Hal C. Pleasants, Jr. of Jackson, Dudley C. Pleasants (Kay) of Greenwood, and  James Moore Bowen III(Carla) of Carrollton; daughter, Annette Pleasants Mize (Allen) of Greenwood; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers are as follows: William Calhoun Pleasants, Allen Hobbs Mize, Jr, William Pleasants Mize, Benjamin David Estes, Burrell Strudwick Gee, Luke John Underberg, and James Moore Bowen, IV.
