Obituary

Services for Hazel White Martin will be held on Friday August 7, 2015 10:00am graveside in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Hazel Martin, a long-time resident of Greenwood, Mississippi died at the age of 85 on Monday the 3rd of August at Baptist Trinity Hospice House in Collierville, Tennessee.
Hazel Marcellus White was born the 3rd of May 1930 to Jesse and Addie Rhew White in Tallahatchie County, Mississippi. She graduated from school in Cascilla Mississippi and moved to Shreveport in the early 1940's to work as a secretary for the owner of Hunt Petroleum Corporation. She met Granville Martin of Greenwood and they were married in Grenada the 24th of August 1952. Hazel and Granville made Greenwood their home for over 45 years. They were members of North Greenwood Baptist Church and raised two children, Jerry Martin and Marsha Martin Antoon.
While living in Greenwood, Hazel was active in the Town & Country Garden Club and the Daughters of American Revolution. She was a homemaker while raising her children and later in life worked as assistant manager of Bankston Elementary School cafeteria. Gardening and cooking were her passions and she excelled at both.
After the passing of her husband Granville in 1999, Hazel moved to Kirby Pines Retirement Community in Memphis, Tennessee.
Hazel leaves behind one sister, Margie Adkins in Memphis, her son Jerry Martin and his wife Pat in Olive Branch, Mississippi and her daughter Marsha Antoon and her husband Tony in Jackson, Mississippi. She leaves behind four grandchildren, Jesse Martin, Farris Antoon, Martin Antoon and Leslie Martin, and one great-grandchild, Phillip Martin.
Hazel's love for her Savior was evident in the way she lived her life and how she loved and cared for others. She never stopped being a mother and grandmother to us all. Through her complements, generous heart and story telling that reflected on past events, she always made each of us feel special. We will all miss her very much.
Memorial gifts may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee, Batson Children's Hospital, Jackson, Mississippi or French Camp Academy, French Camp, Mississippi
The Wilson and Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood has been entrusted with arrangements.
