Helen Carolyn Briscoe Richardson, 88, of Itta Bena, Mississippi, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2019.  Carolyn was born October 9, 1930, to the late Corrie Wynne and Lillian Smith Briscoe of Grenada.  She graduated from Grenada High School in 1948 and attended Mississippi State College for Women, where she majored in home economics.  She was crowned Miss Grenada, Miss Grenada Mardi Gras, and also represented her hometown as Miss Hospitality.

Carolyn married her high school sweetheart, Charlton Chalmers Richardson, in 1952.  After many happy years in Lexington, Mississippi, they settled in Itta Bena, where they owned and operated Durham's Drug Store for 42 years.

Carolyn was a devout Methodist and an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Itta Bena for most of her life.  In later years, she attended services at Indywood Glen and St. John's Methodist Church in Greenwood.  She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.  She was a dedicated homemaker, who loved gardening and fresh tomatoes, and was president of the Garden Club.  She loved the Ole Miss Rebels.  She was known for her constant, uplifting smile and friendly personality.

Carolyn is survived by her three daughters, Tere Richardson Steel of Ocean Springs, Robin (Bill) Harlow of Clarksdale, and Charlyn (Avery) Lubin of Cleveland; five grandchildren, Charlton Wynne Steel, Anna Claire Steel, William Corrie Harlow, Ava Helen Lubin, and Milton Myer Lubin; three great-grandchildren, Madison Grace Soboul, Sophia Blake Steel, and Graysen Elizabeth Harlow; and sister, Ruth Briscoe Evans of Richardson, Texas.  She is preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, February 10, 2019, at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood.  Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., with Dr. Billy R. Stonestreet officiating.  Burial will follow in Itta Bena Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Corrie Harlow, Milton Lubin, Drew Howard, Jack Webb, Buddy Morgan, and Cedric Chin.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Bryce Griffis, Kayo Mullins, Jack Yates, and Bo Branch.

The family would like to thank Drs. William Jones and S. Todd Threadgill, Chinisha Cheeks, Terrilyn Polk, Queen Russell, and the staff of Indywood Glen Greenwood for providing her care and support, and requests that memorials be made to French Camp Academy, 1 Fine Place, French Camp, Mississippi 39745, or to the American Cancer Society.
