Services for Helen Elizabeth Buchanan Safley will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 2:00 PM at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM till 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Helen Elizabeth Buchanan Safley of Philipp, MS, passed from this life August 29, 2022 in her home at the age of 86. She was born October 24, 1935 to George and Sam Buchanan. As a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she dedicated her life to her family. She and her husband, Billy, enjoyed 69 years of marriage, many of which were spent in various places around the world before returning to settle back in Philipp.

Although her early plans of becoming a nurse changed, her love and service to others didn't. If she wasn't working part time at the Post Office or making wedding cakes, she would most likely be found caring for family or friends or helping out on the family farm as she often did.

Helen enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, sharing laughs and making memories. She was a selfless lady who always strived to help those around her in any way she could. For this, she will be missed but will never be forgotten.

Helen is survived by many, including her loving husband, Billy Safley, five children, Walter Safley (Teresa), Sharon Safley, Vicki Knighton (Roy), Vivian Raner (Shelton) and Richard Safley (Jennifer), eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Even though she left so many behind, she is now joyously re-united with those who preceded her in death including her parents, George Buchanan and Sam Buchanan Biggers, her brother, Robert "Bob" Buchanan, her sister, Frances Beverly, and her granddaughter, Nicole Safley.
