At sunrise on Friday, June 9, 2023 Kimble Kelly left his earthly dwelling and went to a heavenly home prepared just for him by his loving Father. Herbert Kimble Kelly was born at home in Berclair, MS to Jerome Kirby Kelly and Eva Lou Lamb Kelly on February 6, 1939. He grew up fishing in Blue Lake and hunting raccoon, squirrel and duck. After graduating from Leflore County High School in Itta Bena, he married the love of his life, Annette Lee, and they enjoyed 64 years together. He is survived by two of their three children, Danny Kelly of Itta Bena, and Kim Washington (Brian) of Acworth, GA, and five grandchildren, Thomas, George Kimble, Vincent, Laura Evelyn and Constance Washington. He is also survived by his loving wife, Ann Kelly, brother, Dr. Philip Kelly (Jeanne) of Madison, and nieces and nephews. His son, Christopher Kimble Kelly, preceded him in death, as well as his parents, and sister, Charles Evelyn, and brother Talmadge.

Kimble retired from Greenwood Utilities Henderson Generating Station after 37 years of service, where he worked his way up from and entry-level employee to Superintendent. He was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Itta Bena, where he served as a deacon. He was well known for his carpentry skills and built many gun cabinets and gun racks for local hunters. He also blessed his wife with many beautiful pieces of furniture and decorative items to use in their home. He also loved playing guitar with friends, especially bluegrass music. In his later years, Pop, as he was called by his devoted grandchildren made amazing peanut brittle to share with friends and family at Christmastime.

On Sunday, June 11, 2023 at 2:00 PM Rev. Ricky Wheat and Rev. Glen Waller will officiate over Pop's funeral at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home with music provided by Wesley Davis. Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM until service time. Interment will follow in Itta Bena Cemetery. The pallbearers will be his three grandsons, son-in-law, and friends, Wayne Aldridge, Charlie Boyd, Richie Fulgham, Tommy Hodges, Robert Joiner and Manuel Vargas. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Rials, Jerry Shaw, Walter Beam, Doug Elmore, J.D. Brasel, Ray Brasel and the men of the First Baptist Church of Itta Bena.
