Obituary

Horace Edward McCarty, 90, of Greenwood, Mississippi, passed away at Indywood Glen Personal Care facility on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.  He was born in Itta Bena, and lived and worked in the Greenwood area for more than 65 years.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956, and during the Korean War was a crypto operator in Berlin and Frankfurt Germany.

Mr. McCarty served several professions during his long career, eventually retiring in 2016 as a salesman from Irrigation Equipment Company of Indianola under Pat Chism.  He treasured his many friendships throughout the entire community whether personal or professional.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Money B. and Della Webb McCarty, and sister, Mary George McCarty McGuffee.

Horace was a member of various service organizations, as well as a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where he was active in the men's Sunday School class for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Arbogast McCarty of Itta Bena, son, Gary McCarty of Itta Bena, and niece, Lisa McGuffee Wright of Peachtree City, GA.

A private family interment was held in Itta Bena Cemetery on Thursday, under the direction of Wilson and Knight Funeral Home.
