Ilse Goldberg died Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at Indywood Glen in Greenwood, Mississippi.

Ilse Goldberg was born on January 5, 1929 in Reichenbach, Germany. She moved to Breslau, Germany when she was nine years old.  In 1938 she escaped Nazi Germany with her parents. She lived in a Ghetto for displaced persons in Shanghai, China for over 8 years.

In 1947, with the help of a distant cousin, she relocated with her parents to Memphis. She married Ervin Goldberg in 1950, and moved to Greenwood where she has lived for 73 years.

Her incredible story of escape from persecution to freedom in the United States is a testament to her courage, faith, and strength.

Ilse Goldberg was predeceased in death by her husband, Ervin Goldberg, her parents, Erna and Richard Markus, and her daughter-in-law, Lois Goldberg.

Her 73 years in Greenwood focused on her family, her community, her Synagogue, and her business, Goldberg's.

She is survived by her son, Michael Goldberg and his wife Gail M. Goldberg, and her son, Jerome Goldberg and his wife Jane Goldberg.  Her greatest joys were her 4 grandchildren, Dr. Richard Goldberg and his wife Rachel, Scott Goldberg and his wife Annie, Eric Goldberg and his wife Cassidy, and Erin Goldberg Bryant and her husband Baylor. She is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren, Walker, Jack, Madison, Emory, and Pierce Goldberg representing her legacy.

Visitation will be at Ahavath Rayim Synagoue in Greenwood from noon until the 2:00 p.m. funeral service on Monday, April 10, 2023. Services will be officiated by Rabbi Micah Greenstein, with a special blessing by Brother Jim Phillips. Interment will follow in Ahavath Rayim Cemetery.
