Obituary

Opal Imogene Henley Spragins, 97, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Providence Personal Care, where she had been a resident for several years. Mrs. Spragins, a longtime resident of Minter City, was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Homer Franklin Spragins, son, Dr. William Homer Spragins, grandson, William Marc Spragins, grandson, Woodley Franklin Spragins, and brothers Jack, George, and David Henley.

Born in Prairie, MS, on October 6, 1920, Mrs. Spragins was the first born and only daughter of Louise Brand and William Irving Henley. She was a graduate of Belhaven University in Jackson, MS. With great passion for the education and care for each of her students, she taught elementary school in Charleston, MS, for 2 years and in Leflore County for 32 years.

In the eyes of her grandchildren, their "MeMe" was the best! She always had great love, wisdom, surprises, and their favorite treats. "MeMe" was a fabulous cook, and loved to entertain friends and family. One of her greatest joys was having her boys' friends in for meals and parties.

Mrs. Spragins is survived by her son, Gene Franklin Spragins and wife Kathy of Marion, AR; daughter-in-law, Terri Spragins of Hollandale, MS; grandson, William Brand Spragins of Franklin, TN; granddaughters, Laura Elizabeth Spragins Giachelli and husband Jeffrey of Leland, MS, and Mary Gunn Spragins Prewitt and husband Reed of Madison, MS; and great-grandchildren, Will and Meg Giachelli and Brody and Beckett Spragins.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 from 10:00am till 11:00am at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood, MS. Graveside services will be 11:00am Tuesday, February 13, 2018 in Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the Minter City Methodist Church, C/O Belva Pleasants, 910 Poplar Rear, Greenwood, MS 38930 were Mr. and Mrs. Spragins where longtime members.
