Mr. Jack Carver, 90, of Belzoni, MS, died Wednesday January 8, 2013 at the University Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Funeral services are 11 A.M. Saturday January 11, 2014 at First Baptist Church Belzoni, MS with interment at 2:30 P.M. Saturday in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Teoc. Visitation is Friday evening from 5-7 P.M. at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood, MS, and also from 10-11 A.M. Saturday at First Baptist in Belzoni.

Mr. Carver was born on May 19, 1923 in Grenada County to William Samuel Carver and Nannie Gertrude Holland. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, and mother of his children, Grace Mullins Carver, his second wife, Ruby Bruce Carver, three brothers, Willie Brewer, Glen Carver, and Douglas Carver, and three sisters, Sue Mullen, Emma Floy Betts, and Margaret Hix.

After graduating high school in Holcomb, Jack married and began his family before entering the United States Air Force in 1943. Following basic training and engine school, he trained for flight engineering, dropping paratroopers, and towing gliders. For his final training, before going overseas, he was divinely placed in Grenada, MS very near his family. As a member of the USAF, Jack served in World War II and the Korean War. In WWII, he was assigned to a C-47 twin engine transport and participated, most notably, in the Battle of Normandy and also the Battle of the Bulge. Over his time in Europe until the war ended, and in the Korean War, Jack was awarded numerous decorations including the following: Air Medal with 2 Bronze Clusters (that represent 2 more medals), Presidential Unit Citation, Outstanding Unit Award, Good Conduct Medal with 3 clasps, American Campaign Medal, Euro-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one Silver Star and two Bronze Stars (one silver star equals 5 bronze), World War II Victory Medal, Humane Action Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Air Force Longevity with 4 Bronze Clusters, and the United Nations Service Medal. In a beautiful ceremony at Jackson's Old Capitol Museum, on September 24, 2013, Jack was awarded his most recent medal. Along with 10 other Mississippi veterans, he received the French "Legion d'Honneur" award for his participation in battles aiding the country of France. The medal was presented by the French Consulate General.

Mr. Carver is survived by one sister, Robbie Carver Ray, of Greenwood; four sons, Larry (Candy) Carver, Jerry (Judy) Carver, Freddy (Brenda) Carver, all of Teoc, and Kenny (Polly) of Brandon; one daughter, Kay Carver of Belzoni; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 2 great great-grandchilden.

Pallbearers are Chad Carver, Brent Carver, Ken Carver, Ryan Carver, Chris O'Neal, Larry Kelly, Eric Melton and J. P. Taylor. Honorary pallbearers are the Deacons and Adult Men's Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church Belzoni.
