Jack Ray Pannell, 85, of Greenwood died peacefully Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Greenwood Leflore Hospital with his son, daughter, twin sister, daughter in law, and granddaughter at his side. A visitation will be held Friday, July 3, 2015 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood, MS. Graveside services will be 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Memphis, TN.
Mr. Pannell was born August 5, 1929 in Blue Springs, MS. His parents were Edgar and Addie Pannell. Mr. Pannell graduated from Sherman High School in Sherman, MS. He married his high school sweetheart the former Janie Wiseman.
Mr. Pannell served in the U.S. Army where he was in the military police. After marriage, the couple moved to Memphis, TN. Mr. Pannell found his way to the automobile business. Starting from the ground, he worked his way up from salesman to used car manager at a large Chevrolet dealer, to co-owner of Whitehaven Datsun. Many of his employees he trained went on to very successful automobile careers. Some managed large dealerships and some went on to own dealerships. He was highly thought of in the car business.
Jack and Janie loved to play weekend golf tournaments. They enjoyed playing and dancing the night away at the party. Their son, Robert is forever grateful to them for introducing him to the game of golf.
Jack is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janie Wiseman Pannell, son Robert Pannell and wife Lisa and their children Holly Ann, Jackson, Steve and Jane Rob all of Greenwood, MS. He is also survived by his daughter Carol Kinney and her husband Wes of Germantown, TN and their children Alexander Kinney of Germantown, TN, Aubrey Kinney Thomas of Knoxville, TN, Katie Kinney and Jak Kinney of Germantown, TN. Also his recent great-granddaughter Henley Price Thomas of Knoxville, TN and his sister Faye Greer of Memphis, TN and Sally May of Southaven, MS.
A special thanks to the dedicated nurses, therapist, and staff at Golden age Nursing Home, who lovingly cared for Mr. Pannell and still care for Mrs. Pannell daily.
