Jimbo Palmer, 68, died Sunday, June 2, 2024 at his home in Greenwood, MS surrounded by his wife, daughter, and younger brother.

Jimbo was born November 1, 1955, in Myrtle Creek, Oregon, to James and Louella Palmer.  Jimbo loved helping others be their best self and to be successful in their chosen endeavors.  He did this as a young man helping his older brother, John, tackle the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada in 1981.  Jimbo took care of the logistics such as retrieving food drops and doing their laundry each week.  He continued his support, as after retirement, John continued the journey to complete the trail by transporting and rescuing when needed!

While living in Elko, Nevada, one of Jimbo's life accomplishments was fulfilled.  He was the neighborhood 'Mom' to many of his daughter's friends, accepting them, respecting them, and mentoring them to become responsible adults who are successful each in their own way.  But of course, his greatest achievement was raising his daughter Janet to be an independent and self-driven woman capable of anything she puts her mind to!

Here in Greenwood, Jimbo was an avid supporter of the sewing classes at Art Place by providing students with tools every seamstress needs to be accomplished!

Jimbo received a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from Western Washington University in 1986.  He worked for Barrick Goldstrike Gold Mine in Elko, Nevada, for 16 years, growing their computer network from less than 100 computers to over 1,000.

Jimbo married Becky Pickett on June 8, 2002, in Elko, NV, and then the next weekend in Jackson on June 15th.  Jimbo didn't celebrate the years; he celebrated the months and made each and every anniversary special!

Jimbo was an active member of the Lions Club of Greenwood and took pride in chairing the scholarship program each year.  He loved serving as a Memphis Barbeque Judge!  He volunteered over the years at the Greenwood Community Kitchen by serving on its board, the Community Food Pantry, St. John's Methodist Christmas Day meal delivery and many more community endeavors.

Jimbo is survived by his wife of 263 months, Becky Palmer of Greenwood, MS, daughter Janet (Lacey) Palmer of Bellingham, WA, siblings Becki (Joe) Sackrider of Bay Center, WA, John (Linda) Palmer of Bellingham, WA, Joel Palmer of Montesano, WA, and Jess (Lisa) Palmer of Shalimar, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 5 at 1 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2 pm in the sanctuary of St. John's Methodist Church in Greenwood, MS, with Dr. Ben Butler officiating.  Since Jimbo selected to have his body donated to research to advance their understanding of cancer, his ashes will be interred in their final resting place at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Mississippi Delta, P. O. Box 1718, Greenwood, MS 38930 or a charity of the donor's choice.
