Services for James Travis Murphy will be held Thursday, May 14, 2020 11:00 AM graveside in Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Mr. Murphy, age 91, died on Sunday, May 10, 2020 at Greenwood Leflore Hospital.

He was born on June 11, 1928 in Greenwood, MS, to the late William and Icy Belle Murphy. He worked 30 years for the Greenwood Fire Department and retired as Assistant Fire Chief. He was a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs and served on the board of directors of the Mississippi Firefighters Memorial Burn Association. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Greenwood, where he served on the Parchman Ministries and was a Deacon. He is preceded in death by his wife, Geraldean Easterwood Murphy; sisters, Idelle Lamb, Annie Walley, Estelle Wigley, Eva Campbell, and Wilma Sproles; and brothers, Rufus Murphy, Lester Murphy, and Charles Murphy.

He is survived by his wife, Melba Shaw Murphy of Greenwood, MS; daughters, Donna (Jerry) Berry of Libby, MT, Susan (James) Woodard of Natchez, MS, and Sande Murphy of Bentonia, MS; sons, Michael Murphy of Miami, FL, and Hal Shaw of Madison, MS; eight grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren.

Rev. Collin Montgomery will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be Bob Givens, Robby Wilson, Bubba Deloach, James Johnson, Mike McLellan, and Charles Wright.
