Obituary

James Oliver "Jimmy" Williams, Sr. passed away on July 5, 2017 at the Martha Jo Leslie State Veteran's Home in Kosciusko, Mississippi.

Jimmy was born on December 27, 1931 to Edith Oliver Williams and Wayne Claude Williams, Sr. He was raised in Greenwood, Mississippi, where he graduated from Greenwood High School.  He attended Millsaps College, where he played football for two years.  In 1951, he joined the Air Force and served until December 1955.

Jimmy and his brother owned and operated their family business, Delta Chevrolet-Olds-Cadillac Company in Greenwood, until they sold it in 2001. Jimmy was active in civic organizations such as the Greenwood Lion's Club, Shriners, Masons, and served as President of the Greenwood Country Club.  He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity.  Jimmy loved to duck hunt, play golf, and was also an avid Ole Miss fan.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Barbara Campbell Williams; his five sons, James Williams Jr. of Greenwood, Alan (Karen) Williams of Columbus, MS, David (Cindy) Williams of Birmingham, Wayne (Kim) Williams of Raymond, MS, and Steve (Beth) Williams of Greenwood. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.  Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Bette Thorne Williams, and his brother, Wayne C. Williams Jr.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00am Saturday, July 8 th at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Greenwood.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Nativity in Greenwood or the Alzheimer's Association. Wilson & Knight Funeral Home is in charge. Online guest book maybe signed at www.wilsonandknight.com
