Janet Jones Young, daughter of the late Clifton V. Jones and Mary Kathryn Grant Jones and a long-time resident of both Greenwood and Carrollton, passed away April 14 th , 2017 at her home. Born in 1957 in West Memphis, AR, Janet completed a paralegal program from Delta State University. She worked for many years as a paralegal in Greenwood and later obtained her Real Estate license. She enjoyed photography, art, and spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Terry Young, her son, Grant (Michell) Young, her daughter, Hayden (Tugay) Angay, and her grandchildren, Morgan Young, Dalton Barefoot, Molly Farmer, Hunt Young, Madelyn Singleton, Lara Avery Angay, Hanna Angay, Campbell Young, Avery Browning, and Kaylynn Browning, her great grandson, Chandler O'Bryant, and all the other children who have called her Granny over the years. She is also survived by her sister, Kathy (Louie) Gerrard, mother in law, Barbara (Bob) Hunter, father in law, Marion Young, brother in law, Kevin (Pam) Young, sister in law, Kendi (Brian) Romano, sister in law, Kelli Dearman, and many nieces and nephews. Janet is the sister of the late Clifton T. Jones.
Janet recently initiated a resolution in the MS Legislature to bring awareness to Ovarian Cancer. September is now officially Ovarian Cancer Awareness month for the state of Mississippi. She was passionate about bringing awareness and was proud to see this resolution come to fruition.
Visitation will be held at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood, MS on Saturday, April 15 th , from 1 – 3 p.m. Bennie Vance will officiate the services. Janet will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Carrollton, MS, on the same day following the services. The pallbearers for the service will be Louie Gerrard, Kevin Young, Brian Romano, Brent Noah, Jody Muirhead, and Dean McKibben.
