Janie Frances Pannell, 87, died peacefully Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Golden Age Nursing Home in Greenwood, MS. Services will be held Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 10:45am graveside at the West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Memphis, TN. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 15, 2017 from 4:00pm until 6:00pm at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood, MS.

Mrs. Pannell was born on July 7, 1929 in Sherman, MS. Her parents were Auber and Vera Wiseman.  Janie and her two sisters and three brothers grew up on a farm in Sherman.  Roy Wiseman, the youngest sibling, still owns the "Homeplace."

Janie was a good athlete and basketball player for Sherman High School. This gene has seemed to trickle down a couple of generations.  She married her high school sweetheart, Jack Pannell.  They were married for 66 years until Jack's death in 2015.

Jobs were scarce in Sherman, MS, so they moved to Memphis, TN. Janie worked for Sears and Roebuck Company for ten years.  Janie then had two children and became the ultimate full time mom.  Driving her kids and many others to ball and cheerleading practices, piano lessons, the YMCA and the golf course became her passion.

In her late 30's, Jane began playing the game of golf and her athletic ability once again shined. Janie loved playing with the ladies in the Tri-States Golf Association.

Janie is survived by her son Robert Pannell and his wife, Lisa, and their children Holly Ann (Jason) Singh, Jackson, Steve and Jane Rob, all of Greenwood, MS. She is also survived by her daughter Carol Kinney and her husband, Wes, of Germantown, TN, and their children Alexander Kinney of Louisville, KY, Aubrey (Kelly) Thomas of Knoxville, TN, Katie and Jak Kinney of Germantown, TN, and her sister Jackie Stokes of Pontotoc, MS, brother, Roy Wiseman, of Southaven, MS, and great-granddaughter, Henley Thomas, of Knoxville, TN.

Janie deeply loved her grandchildren and made sure their favorite food was on the table when they were together.

A special thanks to all of the folks at Golden Age Nursing Home. They provided unbelievable care for her and also became her friends.
