Obituary

Dorothy Jean Jennings Savage

Jean Savage, 90, passed away Saturday morning, June 27, 2020, at Country Meadow Personal Care Home in Greenwood.  Jean was born February 25, 1930 in Cotton Plant, Mississippi, and attended Tippah Union High School through the tenth grade when her family moved to Lambert, Mississippi. She graduated from Lambert High School and Draughon's Business School in Jackson, Mississippi.  She went to work for the Jackson City School System, serving as receptionist and bookkeeper for Peoples Junior High, Provine High School, and then in the Central Office of the school system. She married Maurice Savage, Sr. in 1965 and returned to Lambert, where she lived until she moved to Greenwood in 2012 to be near family.  She retired from Pacific Building Company in Marks, Mississippi, where she served as bookkeeper for many years. She was a long-time member of the Lambert Methodist Church and enjoyed sharing her creative talent with her congregation by making beautiful Chrismon ornaments, arranging alter flowers, and preparing the sanctuary for the advent season.  She was a wonderful cook and hostess, and family gatherings at Jean's house were greatly anticipated and enjoyed by all.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Savage, Sr.; parents, Russell and Margie Jennings; brothers, Dr. Robert Jennings and James Hampton Jennings; niece, Julie Walker; infant nephew, Terrell Cobb, Jr.; sister-in-law, Kathryn Savage; and step-son, Van Savage.

She is survived by her sister, Peggy Cobb (Terrell) of Greenwood; sister-in-law, Gayle Jennings of Taylorsville, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nephews.  She was the "favorite aunt" to nieces, Cheryl Sullivan (David) of Mize and Stephanie Gray of Greenwood; nephews, Scott Jennings and Mike Cockrell of Laurel, Nicky Cobb (Elizabeth) of Madison, and Jeff Walker of Brandon; great nieces, Savannah Gray of Greenwood, Jordan Walker of Brandon, and Caroline Cobb of Madison;  great-nephews,  Jacob Walker (Teresa), Tre Polk and Tayler Polk (fiancé Eliza Adcock) of Brandon, Nicholas Cobb (fiancé  Karis Hicks) of Starkville and Russell Cobb of Madison;  great-great nephews, Elijah and Joshua Walker of Brandon; and step-sons, Paul Savage (Judy) of Batesville, Gayle Savage of Braxton, Sam Savage (Dana) and Maurice Savage, Jr. (Susan) of Oxford, and Pritchard Savage of Lambert.

Funeral services will be held at St. John's UMC with visitation from 9:00 AM until the service at 10:00 AM Tuesday, June 30, 2020.  Interment will be at Lambert Memorial Cemetery at 2:00 PM.  Pallbearers will be Nicky Cobb, Scott Jennings, Mike Cockrell, Jacob Walker, Nicholas Cobb, Russell Cobb, Tre Polk, and Tayler Polk.

Services will be officiated by Rev. Jeff Walker and Rev. Scott Wright. The family is grateful to Danny and Rebecca Edwards and the loving caretakers at Country Meadow Personal Care Home for providing Jean a home for two and a half years.
