Services for J. Fred Burke will be held 11a.m. Saturday February 7, 2015 at North Greenwood Baptist Church in Greenwood, MS. Visitation will be held 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the church parlor prior to the service on Saturday. Dr. Jim Phillips will officiate the services. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Shiloh Cemetery in Calhoun County. Wilson & Knight Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Burke, age 98 died on Monday February 2, 2015 at Golden Age Nursing Home of Alzheimer's Disease

He was born on January 5, 1917 in Calhoun County, MS to the late William and Mae Seale Burke. He was a charter member of North Greenwood Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and taught the 10 year old boys' Sunday School Class for many years. He attended Delta State and taught school before serving in World War II. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and received the Bronze Star. He and his wife Mary Alice moved to Greenwood after the war and he was retired District Manager for United Insurance Company. He was a longstanding member and President of the Greenwood Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Mary Alice Parker Burke of Greenwood, MS, two sons Fred Parker Burke and his wife Sara Jean of Atlanta, GA, and David Ralph Burke and his wife Margaret of Tomball, TX, four grandchildren, Sara Elizabeth Burke Bradford and her husband Will, Fred Parker Burke, Jr., and his wife Kayse, Thomas Howell Burke, and Daniel Ryan Burke and his wife Kimberly, and five great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be William Harold Bradford, Jr., Fred Parker Burke, Jr., Thomas Howell Burke, Daniel Ryan Burke, Stephen Brian Parker, Charles Glen Brasher, and William Earl Bradford III.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Lions Eye Bank, 431 Katherine Drive, Flowood, MS 39232.
