Jo Ann Gillon Britt, a devoted Christian, cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025. Born on February 3, 1938, in Greenwood, Mississippi, Jo Ann was raised in Minter City. She was preceded in death by her parents, David Rayford Gillon and Annie Marie Speight Gillon; her brother, D.R. "Bud" Gillon, Jr.; her beloved husband, Horace E. Britt, Jr.; and daughter, Denise Marie Britt.
Jo Ann is survived by her children: David Britt and Debbie (Bobby) Wells. She also leaves behind a proud and growing legacy through her grandchildren: Daphne Britt, Eli Britt, Chris (Darlin) Wells, Robyn Wells, and Gillon (Keeton) Higginbotham, as well as seven treasured great-grandchildren.
Jo Ann retired from Leflore County, where she served with dedication in the Tax Mapping and Engineering Unit System. A gifted gardener, she found joy in tending her flowers, always appreciating the beauty of God's creation. Jo Ann was a passionate supporter of Mississippi State University, rarely missing a game and cheered on her Bulldogs with enthusiasm and pride. She was a faithful member of St. John's Methodist Church, where she found faith and fellowship in her church community.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Wilson & Knight Funeral Home on Thursday, May 8, 2025. Jo Ann will be laid to rest at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Greenwood, Mississippi. Pallbearers will be Guy Britt, Keeton Higginbotham, Bill Burleson, Chris Wells, Micheal Britt and Tommy Hargrove.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. John's Methodist Church in honor of Jo Ann's deep love for her church family.
Jo Ann's life was a testament to strength, faith, and love. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.
