Jo Lynn Caruthers Vaughan, age 89, of Madison, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Ridgeland Place Assisted Living and Memory Care in Ridgeland, from the effects of Alzheimer’s disease related dementia. Jo Lynn was born February 25, 1937, in Greenwood, and was the daughter of James Edgar and Lucille Banister Caruthers. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lt. Stanley Clyde Hardin and Ledyard Lloyd Vaughan, and her daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Hardin Murphy.
Jo Lynn graduated from Greenwood High School in 1955 and Mississippi State College for Women (Mississippi University for Women) in 1964. She was a devoted Christian and active her entire life in the Methodist Church. She was especially active with the United Methodist Women and the Naomi-Ruth Circle. Additionally, she cherished participating in many organizations such as Junior Auxiliary, Jackson Stitchery Guild, Welcome Neighbor Club, Annandale Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, and the National Society of Colonial Dames. She briefly served as Director of the Chimneyville Crafts Gallery and as a volunteer with the Mississippi Commission for International Culture, the Mississippi Museum of Art, and Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed needlepointing, gardening, cooking and all-things bulldog (both the English and Mississippi State varieties).
She is survived by her sons, Steve Hardin (Sondra) of Madison, MS, and Led Vaughan of Baton Rouge, LA. She also leaves two grandchildren, Steele Hardin (Sarah Beth) of Greenwood, and Sarah Hardin Pigg (Kolton) of Madison, and four great grandchildren, Sutton and Ruthers Hardin, and Aidan and Eli Pigg. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Ann Dow Caruthers Shurden of Vicksburg, Mississippi.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, September 2, 2026, in Odd Fellows Cemetery (Carrollton Avenue) Greenwood with the Reverand Ben Butler officiating.
