Obituary

Joe C. Floyd, 78, of Carrollton died Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at his residence following a battle with cancer. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home. Graveside service and burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Carrollton. Wilson & Knight Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Floyd was born September 1, 1936 in Montgomery County to William Clarence and Fannie Lee Floyd. He attended Providence Baptist Church. Mr. Floyd served in the Mississippi Army National Guard for over 42 years where he achieved the rank of Command Sergeant Major. He was a very dedicated member of the National Guard and was active in many disaster relief efforts throughout the United States. He retired from Henderson and Baird Hardware Co. in Greenwood where he worked as a salesman for over 40 years. Mr. Floyd was an avid golfer and was a longtime member of the Leflore County Country Club. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers W.C. "Toby" Floyd, James C. Floyd, Gilbert L. Floyd, Ray F. Floyd and Jackie D. Floyd.

Mr. Floyd is survived by his wife of over 30 years Barbara N. Floyd of Carrollton, daughters Vicky Jo Floyd of Greenwood and Leigh Ann Vance of Indianola, two step-sons James "Ricky" McCaleb of Grenada, Jeff McCaleb of Itta Bena and two grandchildren Dustin Vance of Oxford and Hunter Vance of Indianola. He is also survived by a brother Billy C. Floyd of Greenwood, sister Helen Burney of Coffeeville and numerous nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Glen Burney, Barry Burney, Chuck Floyd, Wyman Floyd, Randy Floyd, and Dynamite Kirk.
