John "Sonny Boy" Franklin Bratton, 83, died Sunday, June 26, 2016 at Riverview Nursing Home. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Rev. Higdon Herrington and Rev. Jerry Mixon will officiate. Burial will be in Itta Bena Cemetery. Wilson & Knight Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Bratton was born January 28, 1933 in Ruleville, MS, to Robert Franklin and Agnes Bratton. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Itta Bena and currently a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Greenwood. He also served on Gideon's International. Mr. Bratton graduated from Leflore County High School in Itta Bena. He was a longtime farmer in Leflore County and he worked for the Mississippi Department of Transportation where he retired after fifteen years of service.
Mr. Bratton is survived by his wife of over 64 years, Lynn Fondren Bratton of Greenwood; three sons, Johnny Bratton and wife Sharon Perry Bratton of Huntsville, AL, Danny Bratton and wife Gloria Bratton of Prattville, AL, and Rex Bratton of Itta Bena, MS; and daughter, Ellen Bratton Jacks of Greenwood, MS. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Randle Makamson, Ray Makamson, J.D. Brasel, Larry Kelly, David Kelly, Steve Scott, Don Toomey, and Phil Kelly.
