John Loper Gillette, 73, of Greenwood died Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Greenwood Leflore Hospital. Services will be Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 14, 2016 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Dr. Jim Phillips will officiate.
Mr. Gillette was born November 24, 1942 to Jack Ford Gillette and Thelma Loper Gillette. He attended Castle Heights Military School in Tennessee, and he graduated from Kern Naval School in Past Christian, MS. He continued his studies at Mississippi Delta Community College in Moorhead and pursued his interest in Civil Defense in the 1960's where he was a volunteer. He loved people and attended North Greenwood Baptist Church, and he was a member of the Jaycees in his early years.
Mr. Gillette is survived by his sister Josephine Gillette Spicer and her husband Bert of St. Louis, MO, Jane Heath Gillette of St. Louis, MO, his brother George Lewis Gillette II of Greenwood, MS, niece Jennifer Fischer of St. Louis, MO, nephew Robert Spicer of St. Louis, MO, great niece Jacqueline Olivia Fischer of St. Louis, MO, and several cousins in Minneapolis, MN.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or North Greenwood Baptist Church.
