Obituary

John Wayne Henderson, 62, of Minter City, MS, died Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at St. Dominic's Hospital in Jackson.
Wayne was born in Greenwood, MS, on November 6, 1953. He spent his childhood years in the Glendora and Minter City areas, attended West Tallahatchie High School, graduated from Pillow Academy in 1971, and also attended Delta State University.
On November 24, 1971, he married Nell Sykes when they decided to elope to Memphis.
Mr. Henderson was a NAPA Jobber for over 40 years, and he spent 30 years with Delta Farm and Auto Supply, Inc. where he served as Vice-President.
He was a lifelong member and deacon of Minter City First Baptist Church.
Wayne is survived by his wife of over 44 years, Nell, his daughter, Hayley Henderson Murrell and her husband Michael of Minter City, and his only grandchild, Tristen Murrell, who was his pride and joy. He is also survived by his sister, Lynne Rogers and her husband Robert of Tupelo, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Armond and Teresa Sykes Carroll of North Carrollton, and his sister-in-law, Alix Sykes of Minter City. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Heather Henderson Schuhr, his brother, Alan Henderson and his parents, John and Bettye Henderson.
Wayne will be remembered for his kind and loving heart. He especially enjoyed cooking catfish for his Sunnyside neighbors and family. It gave him great joy to help anyone in need, and he will be remembered as a friend to all.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Hill, Charles Lucas, Ray McCluskey, Michael Burden, John Elliot and Ronnie Ray. Honorary Pallbearers will be Vickie Jones and Ruth Scovill.
Funeral services will be held at the Wilson and Knight Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, June 16, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in McNutt Cemetery. Reverend L.D. "Joe" Brown will officiate.
